Brown Seal, National Currency banknote from Series 1929 the year of the Stock Market Crash that ruined many investors and started the Great Depression. The Rye National Bank was assigned National Bank charter number 5662.

The images, above, are at increasing resolution from left to right. All that I've seen offered from this bank was a check featuring a famous person's name on it. Bills that survived from this bank are tightly held by families who apparently have no need to sell their collections.

National Bank note specialist Manning Garrett [at, antiquemoney-dot-com] writes: The Rye National Bank... Type2 1929 national bank notes are already rare to begin with. A printing of less than 1,000 is especially low.

Only six hundred and fifteen of these notes were ever printed! A small fraction of that number would have survived, and finding one in Choice Uncirculated condition is quite remarkable.

That may sound like a very small number, and it is. However, when it comes to small size notes, that print range usually allows for a handful of survivors. Free Gift : As a "Thank you" gift, I'll include a 1960, Rye, N.

Is an affluent suburb of New York City, an hour's drive by limousine or by commuter train from Manhattan. Many wealthy executives raised their families in this tree-lined community situated on the north shore of Long Island Sound, from which a breeze makes life pleasant in the summer. Many older homes have substantial grounds and views of the water. Rye's public schools are first class, the crime rate is low, and it has upscale golf, yacht, and country clubs. Millionaires and tycoons owned homes in Rye in 1929.

The Rye National Bank R. Was established in 1900 and survived throughout the National Bank era, but it no longer exists today. In 1922, construction began on the new R. This impressive-looking stone building with the bank's name carved above the entrance, had just enough step-up to give patrons the sense of entering an important place. The bank's large vault was at the back; teller counters lined the right side.
